What exactly is viscose?

Viscose is a semi-synthetic fiber. This means it is not entirely natural like cotton, nor is it entirely artificial like polyester. The fiber is industrially produced from wood pulp, usually beech wood, but also from pine, eucalyptus, or bamboo. Bamboo is a modern and more sustainable choice: its cultivation requires no pesticides or artificial fertilizers. The chemical composition of viscose is very similar to that of cotton, giving the materials comparable properties. The main difference? Viscose retains heat less effectively. This makes viscose clothing perfect for light summer items.

What are the characteristics of viscose clothing?

Women’s viscose clothing is known for its exceptional softness, supple drape, and elegant sheen. It used to be called “artificial silk,” and that comparison is no coincidence. The fibers absorb dye exceptionally well, keeping colors deep and vibrant, even after multiple washes. Viscose wrinkles slightly more easily than some other fabrics, but thanks to modern weaving techniques and blends with other fibers, that drawback is largely a thing of the past. The comfort of wearing it more than makes up for what used to be considered a downside.

Voile viscose

Voile viscose is the lightest option in our collection. The fabric is thin, breathes very well, and drapes lightly: ideal for summer dresses and airy women’s blouses. On hot days, this viscose quality is your best friend.

Satin viscose

Satin viscose is super soft and has a luxurious, silky satin feel. Slightly heavier than the voile variant, but that also gives it a slightly richer look. A satin viscose dress instantly makes you feel feminine and put-together without much effort.

How do you care for viscose clothing?

Proper care ensures that your viscose clothing stays beautiful for a long time. Below are the most important tips, but: always follow the instructions on the care label inside the garment.

– Hand wash: Viscose can be hand-washed at a maximum of 30°C. The fiber is more delicate when wet, so avoid rubbing or brushing.
– Machine wash: Wash viscose on a wool or silk cycle at a maximum of 30°C. Turn the garment inside out and place it in a laundry bag to prevent friction. Never wash viscose together with garments that have protruding elements such as zippers.
– Drying: Spin-dry for as short a time as possible or not at all to avoid wrinkles. Viscose can shrink in the dryer, so line drying is the best option. First roll the garment in a towel, then hang it out to dry.
– Ironing: Iron viscose preferably while the fabric is still slightly damp, at a low temperature. Iron on the inside to prevent shiny spots.
– Stain removal: Apply liquid detergent directly to the stain and rinse by hand, or wash the garment in the washing machine.
– Storage: Hang viscose clothing and use as few clothespins as possible, as they leave marks on the fabric.
